Cleaning porcelain tiles is simple by mopping the surface. On the rare occasion you do manage to stain a tile there are various cleaning products available from our showroom that may assist in removing the marks.
In the unlikely event that a tile breaks, it is usually possible to successfully repair the tile. The broken tile is removed and the area cleaned. The replacement tile is inserted and grouted and the job is done!
Consider the following before choosing your tile
- How much light is in the room? (Polished tiles bounce light, matt less so)
- The style of your home and décor (Victorian, French Provincial, industrial)
- Practicality of surface – polished, matt, textured (dogs, kids, busy lifestyle)
- Appropriate size of tiles
- Colour co-ordination
Glazed tiles are coated with a liquid glass, which is then baked into the surface of the clay. The glaze provides an unlimited array of colours and designs with a digital print that also protects the tile from staining. Glazed tiles are cost effective to produce, hence making them ideal for budget application.
Double charged tiles are fused with two layers during the firing process. The top layer becomes the decorative component and usually accounts for 25% of the tile. This top layer can be given many different surfaces such as matt, semi-polished, polished, or anti-slip.
Full-body vitrified porcelain tiles have the colour extend through the entire tile. The tile is unglazed, however is machined to the desired finish. They do not show wear because the colour extends through the depth of the tile, making them ideal for commercial applications.
On your box of tiles you will find the shade or batch number. Tiles may vary in shade, size, or appearance from batch to batch, and it is inevitable that they will look slightly different. This deviation can occur through a number of variables such as ingredients, dye, kiln temperatures, or outside temperatures. It is important that any tiles used in the same area are of the same batch or shade. To avoid disappointment it is recommended that your order includes sufficient quantity to allow for wastage and spares.
Determine the total square metrage first, and then allow for wastage. Factors affecting wastage are:
- Corners
- Room size
- Tile size
The general rule of thumb is the smaller the area or the larger the tile, the more wastage there will be. We highly recommend that your tiler measures your space.
Additionally, it is recommended that you keep at least one to two boxes of spare tiles to ensure that if necessary you are able to use the exact same tile for repairs as tiles can vary from batch to batch.
